Exploring New Sector in Crag That Changed Climbing Forever | Adam Ondra

It was very nice to revisit Buoux in the South of France again after so many years! ✊ This legendary, classic crag from the 80's changed climbing itself forever and was a dream to be here for every single sport climber in the world back then. One of the first 8a or 8b was established here and I have one pleasant memory from this place, onsighting route Chouca 8a+ in 2025 when I was 12 ✌ Nowadays, we are slowly exploring a relatively new sector, completely opposite of the "old Buoux," where some projects were waiting for my onsight try. So take a look at the latest video on my YouTube channel, enjoy the routes Le Brillant Saoul 8c and Finement Con 8b+ and let me know in the comments how you like them ☝ PS: Some projects and routes still remain in the new sector and even in the classic part of Buoux. Romania | Europe's Best Kept Climbing Secret? // A Family Climbing Film

Romania - one of Europe's best kept climbing secrets, its wild mountains harbour a really unique style of sport climbing. We started our trip in Baile Herculane, Romania's most famous climbing area. Unfortunately it was June and there was a 40+ degree heatwave. We'd planned to spend 2 weeks in Herculane but we only managed 2 routes with the kids in the insane heat before we decided to completely upend our climbing plans and travel to Rarau - an incredible remote climbing area at 1600 metres in Romania's north east Carpathian Mountains. I don't think I can articulate how much we loved this area! We spent day after day hiking up with the kids to climb as a family, belaying the kids on their climbs and establishing projects for ourselves but at this altitude, rain can be a problem which is an issue when you've got gear in projects you want to send before your time is up... This film is just the tip of the iceberg where Romania's climbing is concerned. We had sooooooo many areas on our list and didn't make it to most of them due to the high temperatures. But I hope it gets you psyched to visit Romania and explore the wild and the climbing areas of this incredibly beautiful country. We'll be back!!! Manikia | Exploring Greece’s New Climbing Mecca // A Family Climbing Film

Only 1.5 hours from Athens, we found it insane that the rocks around Manikia - Greece's newest climbing mecca - sat silently undiscovered by climbers for so many years. With so much quality rock, grades ranging from 4-9a, single pitch and multi pitch, Manikia is a climbers paradise with new routes and sectors regularly being developed by a collective of climbers and bolters, and the Petzl Roc Trip visiting recently in 2022 in support of the Manikia Project. We've circled back in our van twice this year and with the kindness of the local people, the culture and the landscape combined with world class climbing, Manikia is a place we find harder and harder to leave each time... This short climbing film (the first of many we’ve got planned from our travels!) was a joy to document and a mission to produce but reliving the memories now, it was so worth it. I hope if you watch it with your family it’ll encourage you to plan a climbing trip to Manikia or even just to get out there and enjoy the outdoors with your kids, push the boundaries and reap the benefits. Maybe return to the adventurous life you love or step out of your comfort zone and try something new for yourself or with the sprogs 🧗‍♀️ Hope you enjoy 🩶 /// Subscribe and hit the bell 🔔 to never miss a film! I Thought It Was Impossible to Climb Inga 8c+/9a | Adam Ondra

Inga is a rather mysterious route, and the name in the epicentre of French climbing was established by a Japanese legend, Dai Koyamada. ✊ It is a weird route as it is a sitstart into an 8c called 7PM JP Chaud, which is my the 2nd 8c I had ever done back when I was 12 years old. I have a great memory of that trip when I did this 8c route, especially as I was there with my good friend Martin Stranik. We climbed in different crags almost daily, wild camping and chasing the highest possible number of routes harder than 8a within 10 days. I think I ticked 19, Martin ticked 18. ✌ This year in spring, having a couple of rainy days in Southern France, I made a visit on a particularly awful rainy day to this place, and I was able to climb these impossible moves and make an ascent of Inga, 8c+/9a. Moves felt much more doable this time, and I think that my progression in lead climbing has not been that significant over the years, but my progress in bouldering has been huge. But bouldering has been absolutely crucial for to really push these boundaries and make a step from 9a to 9b and then to 9c. The hardest routes in the world have very difficult boulder moves. Can I Onsight All Hard Routes in Soyhiéres During One Afternoon? | Adam Ondra

Soyhières (Switzerland) is one of the crags that I have wanted to visit for a long time. It is the southern tip of Basel Jura—a larger area where I climbed many years ago. Most of the routes in Basel jura are rather short, fingery, savage, but Soyhières has some longer and pumpier routes. I was lucky to have Katy Choong, my teammate from @mammut as a guide as she is the local climber here, and she grew up climbing in this crag. The goal was to sample some of the hard classics, and try to onsight all of them. Actually, those days when I am trying to onsight a bunch of routes in a day are possibly the most fun days for me. I saved some of the routes from the 9th grade for another trip. There is also some potential for more bolting (maybe even cracks). Maybe the world's hardest crack is awaiting there. Potentially World's Hardest Trad Route - Bon Voyage E12 (9a) | Adam Ondra

Trad climbing is a kind of climbing I always hesitated to immerse myself in. ✊ Influenced by the film Hard Grit, the idea of a bold and dangerous route where you can seriously hurt yourself was not very tempting to me, even though I climbed many bold routes on Czech sandstone. When I first heard of @OnceUponAClimb - James Pearson's Bon Voyage route, I knew I had to go there immediately. It simply looked too good. Relatively safe, but runout climbing with seriously difficult boulder problems on immaculate sandstone in the idyllic countryside of southern France.  As icing on the cake- potentially the world's hardest trad route (in terms of physical difficulties) - I found it too tempting. James Pearson himself came along the way, showed me the moves and I admitted that the route was hard. I had to dig deep, take some rest and execute. Still, it was not enough to do it straight away. I had to take some big falls from the end of the crux sequence, eventually even testing the worst possible fall before I could link all the moves of this brutal masterpiece. Enjoy this masterpiece and do not forget to watch the bonus video ➡️ https://youtu.be/dQfW-hnmaf0 - commented ascent of this amazing route with my commentary for all CLIMBING FANATICS and LOVERS in my membership section right now. Never ones to be intimidated by a challenge, the talented Odell Brothers (Tomas Odell and Pedro Odell) once again set out to unlock new heights with their latest daunting ascent – Peru's Andean peak of Taulliraju. To achieve their ambition, the siblings will need to venture far from home and contest the challenges this unique climb sets out before them. Hailing from Patagonia's climbing heartland of Chalten, Argentina, both Tomas and Pedro have been raised upon the iconic Patagonian mountains – which are dreamt of by climbers the world over. As children, this is where the brothers played and first learned to climb. Crown Royale | First Ascent of a Huge 9a Trad Climb

Pete Whittaker climbs one of his hardest trad routes at Profilveggen in Norway, Crown Royale. 🎥 Massive thanks to Aaron Wahab for shooting this one. Check out his other stuff here https://instagram.com/aaronwahab?igshid=OGQ5ZDc2ODk2ZA== A note from Pete about the grade: "It’s always tricky to grade climbs towards the upper end of your level, as every increase in perceived difficulty feels like a huge step, when in reality you’re not actually progressing in grade that much. However I do think it’s good to try and suggest something for new climbs as it helps with a consensus over time. I took in two considerations when grading Crown Royale. 1 being a subjective feeling in comparison to other hard established trad lines, and 2 being a more objective perspective using the Darth Grader app. 1. The obvious route that I have to compare Crown Royale to is Recovery Drink (suggested as 8c+); Same wall, similar features, and a route I climbed back in 2019. To me CR felt harder overall than RD, but not by much, which is why my initial feeling about the route has been 8c+/9a. 2. I’ve seen a few other climbers using the Darth Grader app to help as a guide when grading new routes, so gave it ago and it algorithmed ‘soft 9a’. Of course using the app is still quite subjective, and the boulder/route grades I gave to individual sections of the climb could in fact be incorrect. However, again I used the ‘general consensus’ boulder grades of RD, plus other crack/boulders to help grade the sections of CR (i.e. this is easier than that… that is harder than this, etc). All things considered I’ll suggest 9a (very low end), and look forward to see what future repeats think. It would seem harsh to suggest 8c, as to me it certainly feels harder than Cobra Crack (considered benchmark 8c) and Stranger Than Fiction (tough 8c imo), yet incredibly over generous to suggest 9a+ (cos that's just really hard isn't it). So I know it sits somewhere between those grades. Either way whatever it settles at is all good, because if you like crack climbing, a few crimps and 100m pump fests, then you’re bound to have a jolly good time on this one" --------- Pete's UK Speakers TOUR DETAILS: https://www.speakersfromtheedge.com/theatre-tours/2024/pete-whittaker-fine-lines TOUR DATES: RADLETT - Radlett Centre https://www.radlettcentre.co.uk/What-s-On/Theatre/Pete-Whittaker CHRISTCHURCH – The Regent https://www.theregent.co.uk/event/81356 TUNBRIDGE WELLS - Trinity Theatre https://www.trinitytheatre.net/events/pete-whittaker-fine-lines BRISTOL - Redgrave Theatre https://redgravetheatre.com/event/2024/02/pete-whittaker-fine-lines/1742/ EXETER - Barnfield Theatre https://exeternorthcott.co.uk/events/pete-whittaker-fine-lines/ WORCESTER – Huntingdon Hall https://mpv.tickets.com/?agency=WOLV_MPV&eventid=94515&orgid=55750 SHREWSBURY – Theatre Severn https://www.theatresevern.co.uk/shows/whatson/pete-whittaker BUXTON – Pavilion Arts Centre https://buxtonoperahouse.org.uk/event/pete-whittaker-fine-lines LEEDS - Carriageworks Theatre https://www.carriageworkstheatre.co.uk/whatson-event/pete-whittaker-fine-lines/ SALE – Waterside Arts https://watersidearts.org/whats-on/3405-pete-whittaker-fine-lines/ INVERNESS - Eden Court https://eden-court.co.uk/event/pete-whittaker-fine-lines STIRLING – The Tolbooth https://stirlingevents.org/tolbooth-event/pete-whittaker-fine-lines/ PENRITH - Rheged https://rheged.com/event/pete-whittaker-fine-lines/ NEWCASTLE – Gosforth Civic Theatre https://www.gosforthcivictheatre.co.uk/pete-whittaker-fine-lines NOTTINGHAM - Squire Performing Arts Centre https://squirepac.co.uk/whats-on/pete-whittaker/ For all Wide Boyz products, visit our online shop https://www.wideboyz.com Follow us: 📸Instagram: @wide_boyz https://www.instagram.com/wide_boyz/ 👥Facebook: @wideboyzltd https://www.facebook.com/wideboyzltd/ 🐦Twitter: @wide_boyz https://twitter.com/wide_boyz Contact us: info@wideboyz.com
